  1. Oh man, a LOT of cooks in that kitchen! It will be interesting to see how much such a large group can get accomplished, but at least every conceivable special interest is being represented.

  2. Adam Gamoran is a new addition to the group (replacing Julie Underwood, the former Dean, I assume). He participated in the Thursday and Saturday meetings. Gamoran is currently interim Dean at the University of Wisconsin School of Education.
Adam appeared before the Madison School Board during the controversial implementation of West’s English 10 (the elimination of 10th grade English course options):

Members of the UW School of Education have had not a small role in a number of local initiatives, including Connected Math, Small Learning Communities, teacher coaches and SCALE, among others. The school also provides a number of student teachers to the District.
Nevertheless, the tea leaves are always interesting.
Julie Underwood participated the 2008 Madison Superintendent candidate public appearances while Terry Millar appeared at the recent Math Task Force Public Forums.

I include these items because it seems that a number of factors drive strategy and tactics in the Madison School District, something to consider during the current “Strategic Planning Process”.
Former Madison School District Superintendent Art Rainwater is now working at the UW School of Education:

Finally, while there were a number of teachers present, including those from elementary, middle and high schools. I’m told that Madison Teachers, Inc. was invited but declined to participate, unfortunately. The mix created a very interesting few days.
