A Dane County judge on Monday dismissed a child sex crimes case against a former Sun Prairie School District dean of students who was sentenced in April to 18 years in federal prison.
Robert Gilkey-Meisegeier, 31, was sentenced on April 28 for creating child pornography after he pleaded guilty to soliciting and receiving a video of a partially clothed Sun Prairie West High School student.
The Dane County District Attorney’s Office on Monday morning moved to dismiss its state case alleging similar behavior by Gilkey-Meisegeier and Judge Nicholas McNamara signed an order to do so.
The state’s July 28 criminal complaint charged Gilkey-Meisegeier with 13 counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of child sexual exploitation.
According to that complaint and police testimony in his case, Gilkey-Meisegeier victimized two students at West and downloaded images of a third girl whose nude photos he found on the internet.
In the federal case, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Gilkey-Meisegeier groomed multiple female students and put photos of students’ faces on hundreds of nude photos of adults he found on the internet. He also had a nude photo of a 12-year-old girl on his phone, a sentencing memorandum says.
Also charged in connection with Gilkey-Meisegeier’s case is his former boss, former West Principal Jennifer Ploeger.
