For decades, the pro se share of civil cases has been “remarkably unremarkable” (~11%, +/- 2pp). This is stable through the dotcom era, the 2008 financial crisis, the first Trump term, and COVID-19.
By 2025, the increase in pro se cases accounted for 59% of the growth in federal civil suits over the pre-AI-era mean.
This is likely still early days, the trend shows no signs of stopping.
