  1. The problem, of course, is that Bill Keys doesn’t think Ruth Robarts needs to be in the decision loop. She might ask some tough questions or challenge his supreme authority.
And Ruth is quite right to ask why the district needs to pay for outside legal counsel on this issue. What, one might ask, is the district’s in-house attorney, Clarence Sherrod, doing to earn his keep? I hope Supt Rainwater or Bill Keys will see fit to share with Ruth and the public the bill for these services along with an explanation why this had to be farmed to outside counsel.

  2. It is interesting. I could see one attorney. But why have more than one when most complex issues get farmed out to outside counsel. Do we need an attorney to tell us that we need to consult an attorney? Why not cut the district staff and go straight to the outside attorneys? Oh, yeah, that’s right. The deadline to notify administators of impending layoff came and went with no action other than to affirm that it would be a tragedy to cut administrators…
People should read Board policy 4400 on INVESTIGATION, INTERROGATION, ARREST AND SEARCH of pupils. http://www.madison.k12.wi.us/policies/4400.htm by the way.
