Massachusetts is the first state giving out grants to school districts to pursue a longer school day — and 20 districts have applied for the money. Murphy Middle School in Boston is already experimenting with a longer day, offering help with homework and extra curriculum until late in the evening.
I teaach at Discovery Prep Carter School. I would like my students to read this article. could you send the text. We don’t have an I-pod
I really think this is a good idea especially for IEP/special ed. students who are willing to put in the extra work to learn what they have missed. Many special ed. and ELL students can learn the subject matter GIVEN adaptions they know how and when to use, patience, motivation and personal maturity. I support the idea of a longer “education/learning” day, porovided a second shift of teachers is brought in to do the teaching. I am exhausted by 2:30 pm. But I would sign up for one week day and one weekend day because I care that they learn the subject matter.
Sincerely,
