UW-Madison Data Center usage
Data Holdings is owned by the Forest County Potawatomi Community tribe in northern Wisconsin, as a subsidiary company of Potawatomi Ventures. The company’s customers include government, healthcare, hospitality and other organizations, according to Ryan Brooks, Data Holdings’ chief technology officer and general manager.
“The Tribe’s long-term perspective and commitment to responsible and sustainable investment helped shape the development of Data Holdings from the beginning and continues to influence how we operate and grow today,” Brooks told the Cap Times in an email.
Increased development of data centers and how to regulate the facilities has prompted debate in communities across Wisconsin and the nation, and percolated in the state’s fall elections, including in the gubernatorial race.
Data Holdings opened a two-story, 46,000-square-foot facility in Milwaukee in 2013. The scale of the building pales in comparison to some larger proposed data centers in Wisconsin, such as Meta’s facility in Beaver Dam, which is expected to span more than 500 acres.
At a campus meeting this month, faculty leaders asked interim Chancellor Eric Wilcots where the university stood on data centers.
