Based on my follow the money investigation, those Cornell police officers are not city cops who happen to patrol a campus, they are Cornell employees, “subject to its supervision and control” under a New York law written for Cornell alone, and their department answers to Cornell’s Chief Financial Officer. That is the same office that manages Cornell’s debt, its bond disclosures and the money it sets aside for lawsuits. When she walked in, that office was carrying a $417 million liability for a Weill Cornell doctor who sexually abused his patients. That $417 million turned into $878 million a few months later.
