Mom says Wautoma player can’t walk, talk after hit in football game

Samara Kalk Derby:

The mother of a Wautoma High School senior who was seriously injured during a homecoming football game against Waupun on Friday night said Sunday that he is unable to walk or talk.

Dom Rooney, who turns 18 on Tuesday, was taken by Med Flight to Children’s Wisconsin in Milwaukee after being hit in the head during the game. His mother, Kimberly Kozlowski, said doctors diagnosed him with a traumatic brain injury.

A team of specialists who work with functional neurological disorder will assess Dom on Monday and determine next steps, Kozlowski said.

Dom plays on both the offensive and defensive lines and has played all four years of high school, she said.
