“They grow the state so they can grow the dues”
Thanks again to the Yale Political Union for inviting me to take part in such an important and spirited debate.
Resolution: “Ban Public-Sector Unions”
Result: 35 Yes, 25 No
In the UK, I watched my family get taxed to own a TV, taxed to drive a car, and hit with a 40% income tax rate and 20% sales tax. It was never enough, because nearly one in five workers is on the government payroll.
Public-sector unions don’t just bargain. They grow the state so they can grow the dues. That’s the model, and that’s why I argued to ban them.

We didn’t wait to get fined. New York’s new law lets the attorney general investigate us and ask a court to block our mail before a single envelope goes out, just because we plan to tell public employees they can stop paying union dues.
