A South Side nonprofit that assists the Latino community is opening a technology hub using a $3 million gift from the charitable arm of a Madison student loan guarantor.
Centro, 2403 Cypress Way, announced the gift from Ascendium Education Group on Friday. It will be distributed through 2029 and used to create the Centro Tech Hub, described in a news release as a “transformative initiative designed to expand access to digital literacy, workforce development pathways, entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities for the Latinx community across Wisconsin and beyond.”
“I crave a future where Latinx families are prioritized, mobilized by many faces of all kinds of backgrounds that says our thriving will only expand and certainly will not be jeopardized,” Karen Menéndez Coller, Centro executive director, said in the news release.
