k-12 budget practice: classroom vs administrative $pending

Corey DeAngelis:

Arizona Senate passed a bill requiring school districts to spend at least 60% of their operational funding on classroom instruction and teachers.

The vote was 16 to 12.

All Democrats voted against it.

Spoke with @arneduncan at @aefpweb in Chicago last week on how Democrats lost parents when it comes to education.

His take: Covid closures + no clear vision = opening for GOP to tap into fears.

His Rx: stand for academic excellence + accountability in school choice.

Scott Manley:

Per pupil spending has more than doubled since 2000. We have more money, fewer kids to educate, and a bloated education bureaucracy that grew by more than 8,000 non-instructional staff in our schools. High property taxes are a choice, and districts have chosen poorly.
