Because this is behind a pay wall, I’ll tell you what happened. Texas has a decades old law on the books that allowed illegal aliens to pay in-state tuition at Texas state universities. The Trump DOJ filed a lawsuit to invalidate the law – Attorney General Paxton immediately “settled,” and the law was invalidated without the need to go through the messy process in the Texas legislature. It is indeed similar to how the Obama DOJ would sue blue cities for “racial discrimination,” and the city would immediately “settle.” This allowed City Councils all over the country – Baltimore, Philadelphia, Chicago, Seattle, others – to hobble their own police departments with the force of the federal government in ways they couldn’t do on their own.
