Two key pieces of information are missing from Duke’s public reporting — the Class of 2029 student profile and the University’s long-awaited “inclusive excellence principles.”
Their absence comes after the University faced federal scrutiny over race-based admissions policies and alleged racial discrimination and fallen into the Trump administration’s larger push to “[ensure] accountability” in higher education. In response, Duke has taken measures to control the release of university information.
Administrative units, from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to the Office of Institutional Research, are updating data reporting methods and delaying the release of student demographic data, namely the student profile, until it has been reviewed and approved by the Office of University Communications and Marketing.
Duke’s student profile tracks demographic data for each undergraduate class and is typically released between September and October. The student profile disaggregates the first-year class across various identifiers, including race, gender and geographic origin.
