As many school districts face budget cuts and consider new tax levies, 5 INVESTIGATES reviewed the contracts for every superintendent at the 30 largest school districts in the state.
The contracts are not readily available. All of them require a public records request — and in some cases even cash — to obtain.
The documents reveal eye-popping perks, monthly stipends, allowances, and a handful of creative ways to describe what most people know as a “bonus.”
“The compensation question is important. It’s a fair question,” said Dr. Deb Henton, a former school superintendent and the current executive director of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators.
