The “ai” University
What does Cowen predict? In a nutshell: Hyperselective colleges will be fine — at a minimum, they will remain valuable as an elite matchmaking service. Big public universities will also by and large be OK — diminished in academic quality but still desirable as a social experience. Small private institutions are in for a world of pain. At all colleges, real learning will increasingly take place between motivated students and their AIs. And the value of a degree will continue to slide.
