If the Top Four Experts (NY Times article) Ran the Rankings: How to Fix U.S. Schools, Reordered

A kind reader asked for an update to the order and cost rankings to improve US schools based on the top four experts only.

Here it is:

The New York Times asked 37 researchers to rate ideas for reversing a decade of falling reading and math scores. We asked four AI assistants to size up those researchers, and four names rose to the top: Tom Kane, Matthew Kraft, Thomas Dee and Eric Hanushek.

So what happens when you re-rank the ideas using what those four have actually published? Tutoring and the science of reading keep their crowns. School accountability leaps from eighth place to third. Paying and keeping great teachers climbs. And ideas that mostly add money, like bigger budgets, across-the-board raises and smaller classes, slide down the list.

One catch: the Times didn’t publish how each expert voted, so this is our estimate based on their research, not their actual ballots. It covers the 19 ideas whose ratings appear in the article.
