Do you trust the news? The New York Times at UW–Madison
On September 15, three New York Times journalists spoke at UW–Madison’s Pyle Center about why trust in the news is low and what they do about it: editor Patrick Healy, White House correspondent Zolan Kanno-Youngs, and Chicago bureau chief Julie Bosman.
They explained how they decide what to cover, from Wisconsin’s governor primary to a two-hour Oval Office interview with President Trump. They talked about why they ask pointed questions instead of trading insults, and how they tell fair criticism from bad-faith attacks.
Students pressed them on bias, money, and the paper’s opinion pages. Note that an ID was required to enter and visitors had to pass through security screening.
