UW-Green Bay first in Wisconsin university system to offer reduced credit bachelor’s degree
This fall, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will be the first campus in the public university system to offer students a reduced-credit degree.
Students interested in the bachelor’s degree in computer science will have the option of finishing their coursework in about three-and-a-half years, or with 100 credits.
That’s down from a traditional 120-credit, four-year degree program.
Computer science majors still have the options of taking the four-year program, said Kate Burns, UW-Green Bay’s provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.
Burns said computer science was chosen as the first reduced-credit major given the high demand for technology-related careers throughout the region.
“We noticed that our computer science students were getting jobs before they finished their degrees, and to us, that was really a signal that the students were ready and the workforce was ready,” Burns said.
