The cost of K-12 transparency should be zero
How much are you willing to pay to find out what your local public school is teaching? On its face, the question sounds absurd. The cost of transparency should be zero.
When the Show-Me Institute launched the Curriculum Transparency project in 2022, which examined the extent of diversity, equity, and inclusion materials in schools, we sent out Sunshine requests to every school district in the state. In return, we received bills totaling nearly a million dollars ($908,192). For example, Lee’s Summit sought $40,609 to comply with our request.
