Worker's Comp (Con't)

It is not that this information does not concern me, but there are other factors that I would like to have discussed or researched in relation to this topic:

1. What were the most extensive injuries?
An outline of the top 20% may show a trend.

2. If 56% are due to custodian injury; how are those custodians getting injured? Are the injuries related to repair and maintenance or our facilities? If we start comparing this to the private sector; then we have to ask ourselves if the condition of the buildings, grounds, storage and other surroundings are the same as those in the private sector.

3. What is the yearly trend? I find it difficult to compare one year to the next without looking at the overall trend for at least 5 years. Price mentions the ratings have improved, decreasing costs. Yet the "types" of injuries were obviously worse due to the number of days off. Insurance probably cares more about the number of incidents because it is easy to measure and difficult to cost compare recovery on an indivual basis; everyone will recover differently.

4. More important to me is the system used for evaluating workman's compensation. Is someone is in charge of looking at individual abuses? If an individual continually appears to be more accident prone than the rest, I would like to know if there is a program in place to evaluate that person's performance. Sounds to me, from reading the interview that this position is on the cutting blocks and the responsibility will be shared and spread out among other employees. I hope they can work together to find extreme, individual abuse.
